Eleanor gets the time she needs to show off her amazing self

Eleanor gets the time she needs to show off her amazing self

By SNN Admin | 04.05.2022

Eleanor’s owners called 311 to schedule an appointment to surrender their recently adopted dog back to the city shelter. They said Eleanor was being destructive in the home, and they didn’t know what to do about it. Our Pet Support & Resource Center staff assured them we could find help for Eleanor so they could keep their newly adopted dog. They were eager to try anything.

So, we referred them to Dallas Pets Alive and their PASS (Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender) program. Through them, they received free training resources and a virtual consultation with a trainer to help guide Eleanor on how to be a good canine. As a result, Eleanor’s owners are no longer thinking of giving her up. They say she loves training and seems to have loads of potential.

These are the happily-ever-after stories we hope to create for pets every day.

Our Pet Support & Resource Center is an award-winning partnership with the City of Dallas and Dallas Animal Services to provide alternatives to surrendering a pet to the city shelter. Through this program, Spay Neuter Network provides services and resources to keep pets in their homes; helps pet owners rehome their pets on their own if needed; or routes pets to our local rescue partners for quicker adoptions.

Luna’s pregnancies were too much for her owner, but we said we could fix that

Luna’s pregnancies were too much for her owner, but we said we could fix that

By SNN Admin | 04.05.2022

Margaret couldn’t handle her 2-year-old cat, Luna, getting pregnant anymore. Just when she would get one litter of kittens homed and out the door, Luna was giving birth to another litter who would require eight more weeks of Margaret’s time. While Margaret knew she needed to get Luna fixed, she didn’t have the money to do so. Sadly, like many other lower-income pet owners, she thought her only choice was to surrender Luna to the city shelter.

Through our Pet Support & Resource Center, we look for alternative pathways to keeping dogs and cats out of the city shelter and with their families. We spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped Luna – all for free, thanks to donations and generous grant funding for this project. These simple services kept Luna from being separated from the only family she had ever known. And, she won’t be contributing to the pet overpopulation problem anymore.

These are the happily-ever-after stories we hope to create for pets every day.

An alternative path to a new home found for “Milo”

An alternative path to a new home found for “Milo”

By SNN Admin | 04.05.2022

Milo’s owners called 311 and said they couldn’t afford to care for their dog anymore. We offered support with free vaccinations and spay/neuter, but they felt their only choice was to surrender this adorable dog to the city shelter. But that would put him at risk of euthanasia if a home could not be found in time.

Through our Pet Support & Resource Center, we strive to find alternative pathways for pets so they can bypass the city shelter entirely. We asked Milo’s family if they could hold onto him for a few more days, so we could transition him into foster care instead. They agreed. One of our partners, Dallas Pets Alive (DPA), quickly located a foster mom for Milo who could take care of him while we vaccinated and neutered him and readied him for adoption. Milo received a flurry of adoption applications, so it didn’t take long for him to find a new home. He now shares his life with a loving family who takes him for car rides (which he loves, they say) and an older dog named Sasha who loves to play tug-of-war.

These are the happily-ever-after stories we hope to create for pets every day.

Woman finds ways to keep her “Bless”

Woman finds ways to keep her “Bless”

By SNN Admin | 04.05.2022

When Dorothy took in a stray cat, she confessed she didn’t want a pet. But a few days later, she found herself head over heels in love with the tabby she named Bless. Dorothy knew Bless needed to be fixed and vaccinated, but she didn’t have the money to care for her. She decided Bless would be better off at the animal shelter where she could find a new home. But this would put Bless at risk of euthanasia if a home could not be found in time.

That’s where Spay Neuter Network can step in and help. Through our Pet Support & Resource Center, we spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped Bless for free, thanks to generous donations and grant funding for this project. Dorothy was delighted we could take care of Bless and that she could keep her in the family.
