Happy Tails: Affordable surgery option helped Blackie get neutered
Ms. McFather found a 1-month-old little black kitten on her front porch after a momma cat dropped him off and disappeared. Ms. McFather didn’t want the little kitten to die, so she took him into her home and gave him a new life and a name, Blackie.
Now that Blackie is 8 months old, Ms. McFather knew she needed to get him neutered. Ms. McFather is on a limited income and, after calling several full-service vets, was very depressed about getting Blackie neutered. After hearing of her struggles to find a more affordable vet option, a friend suggested Spay Neuter Network. Ms. McFather made an appointment to get Blackie neutered. Ms. McFather said, “I am so glad that SNN is here to offer low-cost neuters because people like me, on a very limited income, need someone like SNN to help us take care of our pets.”
Ms. McFather brought Blackie to our Crandall clinic to get neutered. He also received a free FVRCP vaccine. After Blackie’s surgery, Ms. McFather said, “Blackie is doing great because the staff cares and took good care of him.”
Roxy B found a new home

Roxy B found a new home
While on Facebook, Amber stumbled upon a “rehoming pets” page where she found a beautiful, 2-year-old dog named Roxy Bañuelos that immediately stole her heart.
According to Amber, Roxy Bañuelos’s owner could no longer care for her dog and had an appointment to surrender her to the city shelter. Roxy Bañuelos’ current family, however, hoped to rehome her rather than keep that appointment. Amber and her boyfriend were ecstatic they could make Roxy Bañuelos part of their family that day.
Roxy Bañuelos went into heat that first week in her new home. So, Amber scheduled her spay/neuter surgery appointment with our San Antonio clinic a few weeks out. Amber got Roxy Bañuelos fixed, vaccinated, and on heartworm preventative within a month of bringing her home.
“I truly want to say thank you for making me feel comfortable leaving her in safe hands. I was very nervous about her surgery, but everyone was so friendly and nice. She made a great recovery and is as happy as can be. She’s definitely a goofball.”

Rocky received affordable care keeping him healthy

Rocky received affordable care keeping him healthy
Martha needed to get her dog, Rocky, neutered. But she could not find an affordable veterinary clinic near where she lived. That’s because Martha lives in a veterinary desert – a part of town where there is no access to veterinary care for many miles. These deserts exist because veterinary clinics typically located in more affluent areas of town, where people have more disposable income to care for their pets. These practices leave low-income communities without affordable pet care near where they live.
That’s where Spay Neuter Network helps. We operate most of our clinics in veterinary deserts and offer transport services for spay/neuter surgeries to and from our clinics if pet owners have transportation issues that might prevent them from getting to our clinic. The goal is to provide every pet equal access to basic pet care, which includes spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, microchips, and preventatives for flea, tick and heartworm.
When Martha’s husband discovered it would only cost $85 to get their 11.5-lb. dog, Rocky, neutered, rabies vaccinated, and microchipped, he told his wife to make the appointment “right away.”
Post-surgery, Martha told our staff, “I am 100% grateful for your services today, and for fixing the pets in our community. I will help spread the word in my neighborhood, so other pet owners can find these services for their pets too.”

An affordable fix gets Magmus a home

An affordable fix gets Magmus a home
Kelley couldn’t help but notice a one-month-old kitten wandering and mewing around a dumpster outside a restaurant. With no mother cat around, this kitten, who was barely a pound, appeared to be an orphan. Kelley approached and was able to pick up the kitten. Kelley already had one kitten and thought, “it would be great to have a playmate for her other kitten.”
During this time, Kelley fell in love with Magmus and wanted to make him a part of the family. But she soon discovered that affordable vet care was not available nearby. She thought she might have to surrender Magmus to the shelter. Thankfully, a friend told Kelley about our affordable services. So, when Magmus was old enough, she got him neutered, rabies vaccinated, and microchipped for just $55 at our Crandall, Texas, clinic. “Thanks to SNN, Magnus is fixed and will live with me forever,” Kelley says.

Lorax was fixed for free

Lorax was fixed for free
Timothy was outside doing his work for the city when he opened a Porta-Potty and found an orange tabby cat sitting patiently inside. “He didn’t look healthy and seemed pretty scratched up,” said Timothy. “I think someone abandoned this cat and put him in the Porta-Potty for me to find.”
Timothy brought “Lorax” home and let him recover from his ordeal before calling us to get him neutered. Timothy lives in one of the 15 ZIP codes in Fort Worth where we are able to support pet owners with free spay-neuter surgeries, rabies vaccinations, and microchips, thanks to the ongoing generosity of the Saving Hope Foundation, who is dedicated to increasing access to care for Fort Worth pets.

Poochie finds love and a new home

Poochie finds love and a new home
When pets are abandoned, it can be challenging to find them new homes. An older dog or cat is less appealing to many adopters than a puppy or kitten. But thankfully, some kind souls open their homes and hearts to abandoned dogs or cats. In this story, that kind soul was Mr. Carroll.
When Mr. Carroll heard from a neighbor that Poochie had been thrown out of a car in a Walmart parking lot, his heart sank for this poor dog. Without hesitation, he decided he wanted to be the one to take care of her.
“I promised Poochie that I would take care of her from now on,” he said. “Someone was very mean to her in the past, and she didn’t deserve that.”
But Mr. Carroll soon discovered that affordable pet care can be challenging to find, especially for someone on a fixed income. That’s when he found Spay Neuter Network’s low-cost services and got Poochie her vaccines, heartworm test, microchip, and heartworm prevention for a very affordable cost.
“Your low prices made it possible for me to keep my promise to her,” he said.
From now on, Poochie will receive excellent health care at our clinic and be loved every day by Mr. Carroll. We think the joy in Mr. Carroll’s face says it all!

Hanna finds love in a new home

Hanna finds love in a new home
Gary found Hanna in a parking lot when she was just three months old. He remembers her crying and being very thin. He knew he had to help her. So, he took Hanna into his home, and started saving to get Hanna fixed, vaccinated and microchipped, which he thought would be about $200. On the day he brought her to our clinic, we noticed he was a little nervous about getting her spayed. Later that afternoon, when he saw that Hanna had come through the surgery just fine and that it would only cost $45, thanks to a grant that helped people in his neighborhood, he was in tears and hugging all the staff.
“Thank you for taking care of my Hanna and all the animals that live in my lower-income community,” he said. “I live off social security, so I feel like I won the lottery today with this low-cost service.”
On the way home, Gary bought Hanna a new toy with the money he saved. She must feel like she won the lottery too.

Thanks to a free neuter Coco gets to stay home

Thanks to a free neuter Coco gets to stay home
When Grace called 311 to surrender her one-year-old cat, Coco, because he was spraying all over the house, she reached our Pet Support and Resource Center. We told her Coco may be spraying because he had reached sexual maturity and was not fixed. He was just marking his territory as any unfixed male cat might do.
So, we offered Grace a voucher to get Coco neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped at one of our clinics. “Since then, he has been good and sleeping better at night,” says Grace. “He has stopped crying and is now more relaxed.”
We’re happy to have solved her problem and helped Coco remain with his family.
Our Pet Support and Resource Center has kept 502 pets out of the shelter in 2023. Your donation on North Texas Giving Day will help us keep more pets like Coco at home with their families.

Gaia gets the help she needs to find a new home

Gaia gets the help she needs to find a new home
When Jenny found two-year-old Gaia, she had just emerged from a nearby body of water. She was soaking wet, sitting in the middle of a Dallas road, refusing to move. Jenny immediately stopped to help. When she opened the door, Gaia jumped right into her truck.
As a rescuer, Jenny had used Spay Neuter Network’s low-cost services before, so she brought Gaia in to get her spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and have her tested for heartworm. Thankfully, she was negative! Because of grant funding, we could provide Jenny with a $20 surgery package that ensured Gaia got everything she needed before Jenny found her a new and loving home.
With your help, we’ve sterilized more than 300,000 dogs and cats, administered more than 400,000 vaccinations and transported 60,000 dogs and cats for surgery. Donations made during North Texas Giving Day will help us to continue our mission of eliminating pet overpopulation through spay/neuter.

Puppy vaccines will help Banjo live a happy and healthy life
Evan and Arielle adopted now 5-month-old Banjo from the Animal Defense League as a young puppy. Banjo is Arielle’s first puppy, and she wants to ensure he is healthy and happy. They have been bringing him to Spay Neuter Network since his first rounds of puppy shots. They were able to take advantage of a couple of Free DHPP vaccines in the process. She said, “Having an affordable place where I could go for each of his rounds of shots and dewormers was helpful and made it easy to take care of my first pup.”
